In this video, I’ll go over the out of the box overview of the Garmin Tread Base Edition. The Tread was originally released in the fall of 2020 but was only available in the US due to the group radio packaging. For 2021, you can now get the Base Edition which does not have the group radio and now you can purchase in Canada. This device is targeted at the Off-Road / Powersport users where they can mount the Tread on a truck, ATV, side by side, motorcycle or snowmobile. This device is also meant to be plugged in as the battery life is only a max of 6hrs. Physically, the Tread is identical to the ZUMO XT but as the ZUMO XT is configured on motorcycle touring, the Tread of configured for On/Off Road Navigation. Compared to a Montana 700, the Tread has a better display in terms of brightness and refresh time. You cannot do other activities on the Tread, unlike the Montana 700. You’ll need the Garmin Tread smartphone app in order to use certain functions that will rely on your smartphone data such as Traffic, Weather, Radar, etc.. You need wifi to download & update directly on the device software & map updates and Birdseye satellite imagery. Pre-loaded on the device you have the following products: City Navigator North America Topo Active PowerSports North & Central America You also get additional datasets: iOverlander US Parcel data and probably a few more. You get in the box all the hardware to mount on a Side By Side including the cables. If you want to mount the Tread in your Truck and ATV or SXS, then you will need to get an additional mount & ball clip. There is no inReach integrated on the device, you will need to pair with either a GPSMAP 66i, Montana 700i or inReach mini.
