Good evening everyone and welcome to our Friday evening celebration. We begin with the Exposition and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by the celebration of the Holy Mass. We also welcome you to stay with us as we conclude the evening the Franciscan Way of the Cross In our Gospel reading today (Matthew 21:33-43, 45-46), Jesus delivers the parable of the wicked tenants, a poignant allegory outlining God’s patience with Israel's leaders and their ultimate rejection of His Son. It warns against abusing stewardship privileges and highlights that God expects fruitful, righteous service, with the Kingdom given to those who produce such results. Key Reflections: Stewardship and Fruitfulness: The vineyard represents God's people/world, and the tenants are leaders trusted to care for it. God expects a harvest of justice, righteousness, and faith. We are called to be stewards, not owners, of our lives and talents. Rejection of the Son: The servants are the prophets; the son is Jesus. The parable predicts the leaders' rejection of Jesus (the cornerstone) and his murder, showing God's grace being rejected. The Consequences of Unfaithfulness: The kingdom is taken from those who do not produce fruit and given to a "people" (the Church/faithful) who will. It highlights that God will find others to accomplish His work if we refuse to cooperate. Self-Reflection: The Pharisees realized Jesus was speaking about them but refused to repent. The passage invites us to examine if we are truly bearing fruit or just claiming ownership. The Rejection of the Cornerstone: Jesus points to himself as the stone the builders rejected, which has now become the essential foundation (cornerstone) of the kingdom. This passage ultimately calls us to be productive, faithful servants, recognizing Christ as the foundation rather than an obstacle to our personal plans. The Responsorial Psalm is from Psalm 105: "Remember the marvels the Lord has done."
