Have you ever seen thousands of people in terrifying wooden masks roaming the streets of Southern Germany and Switzerland? You might think they’ve lost their minds, but there is a deep, centuries-old history behind this "crazy" tradition. In this video, we explore the Swabian-Alemannic Fastnacht. As a history student and someone who grew up with this tradition, I want to clear up the most common misconceptions. P.S. Please excuse my thick German accent. I’m a history student, not a linguist – but I promise the facts are 100% accurate! In my home region, we have a saying: 'We can do everything... except standard German.' Apparently, that includes English as well! 🤣
