The 2019/2020 winter season has come to a close in the Northern Hemisphere. As the powerful south winds abandon the world-class, left-hand point break of Mundaka, surfers prepare for the biggest challenge of their lives. The Basque Country surfing community prepares for a more or less prolonged lockdown, as the novel coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak spreads fear, anxiety, and death across the globe. In Mundaka, the last swell of the season appeared in mid-February, even though winter swells changed the local bathymetry and sandbanks. But, blessed by the perfect tide timing, strong winds, and sunny skies, northern Spain's surf town enjoyed its final, idyllic surf sessions before the battle of our generation. Perfect waves rolled in, and Mundaka rose to glory. When the global pandemic is over, paradise will return, and the waves of many surfers' lives will become a reality. Now, do your part.
