China Eastern's business class has come a long way since the days of A340s. The reverse herringbone seats in business class and suites with double beds in first class means China Eastern finally offers a competitive product in the trans-pacific business. The catering on this flight was good for business class and left me with no complaints. The seafood and duck were nicely flavored and presented. The professionalism of the crew was definitely the highlight of the trip, especially when dealing with the two sick passengers onboard. The FAs welcomed each passenger and escorted us to our seats which is always a nice touch in business class. The crew were always eager to respond to requests. The only odd interaction was the crew telling me not to film an empty part of the cabin out of concern for other passenger's privacy. I showed one of the crew my pictures of the empty seats to ensure them I was not filming other passengers, but she remained politely firm. I understand their concerns so I stayed away from filming any parts of the cabin or crew. The main event of the flight was the two medical "emergencies" during this flight. Although both passengers were ultimately fine, the crew genuinely cared. A group of 4-6 FAs gather around an elderly man who fainted to offer him water and asked him how he was doing. Because the man needed to keep his legs raised, they switched his seat to business class. The purser came by frequently to check up on him. Upon landing, the crew had arrange doctors to see both passengers in the the airport. Overall the China Eastern FA took responsibility for their passenger's well being and demonstrated a high level of professionalism and compassion. To me China Eastern's 777 offers the 2nd-3rd best business class in Mainland China only behind Xiamen and Hainan's new reverse herringbone business class. The catering is better than China Southern while the seats are better than Air China. Service wise Xiamen and Hainan tend to lead the pack although the service on this flight was quite good.
