James Ure was born in Scotland. His stage name 'Midge' is the phonetic reversal of the dimunitive name 'Jim'. Ure started his career as a musician in the early 60s in a band called 'Stumble'. Ure switched bands in the 70s and formed 'Visage' in 1978. In 1980 the band had a huge hit with 'Fade to Grey' - a song he co-wrote. In April 1979 Ure revived and reformed the band Ultravox. He took over as lead singer, guitarrist and keyboarder. Other members included Billy Currie (who was also part of Visage, keyboards), Chris Cross (bass) and Warren Cann (electronic drums). The album 'Vienna' was recorded in 1980 - the single with the same became a huge hit in the UK and the album re-entered and peaked at #3. Their second album 'Rage In Eden' reached the Top 5 in the UK. Two more albums 'Quartet' and 'Lament' also became hits in the country and across Europe. Ure also released solo songs and a solo album in 1985. "The Gift" reached #2. He returned to Ultravox but shortly they disbanded and Ure continued on his solo ways. Ure also co-wrote the band aid song 'Do They Know It's Christmas' together with Bob Geldorf. In this video I give to you the 10 best songs of his as a solo artist and part of Ultravox.
