A trio of canopies for Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy

Outdoor spaces within schools are highly valuable assets often helping to facilitate richer learning and recreation experiences for pupils. With a growing emphasis on benefits that extended time outside has on learning and development, ensuring key spaces are protected from the weather can dramatically extend usage across the school year while easing congestion in other parts of the school. Edward Worlledge Ormiston Academy in Great Yarmouth, approached Streetspace to help them update 3 existing areas into more usable covered spaces for the children to enjoy year round. This project is a great example of combining different canopy designs to address the desired use cases while ensuring a consistent design aesthetic with matching RAL colours to compliment existing school colour schemes. An ORION Hypar Waterproof Tensile Canopy covers the aptly named ‘Mushroom Corner’. The design of the canopy offers a great balance of shade and shelter from the elements while the distinctive Hypar form of the canopy compliments the fun playground landscape.  A Triton Maxx Polycarbonate Roof Canopy provides the children with the option of a sheltered space to use during their break and lunch times. Finally, an ORION Barrel Vault Tensile Structure in the nursery playground provides the younger children with shade and rain protection whilst they play. The canopy provides lots of clear space for the children to enjoy while the soft membrane roof creates an ambient environment, helping to absorb the sounds of voices, rain and echo.
