Sailabala College Protest: Sofia Firdous Ends Gate Blockade

Tension finally eased at Sailabala Women's Autonomous College in Cuttack after a massive 10-hour protest. The blockade at the main gate ended following a successful intervention by Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous, who convinced the students to call off the dharna for now. The protest reached a breaking point after the recent Odisha State Budget failed to grant University status to the historic institution. Students had locked the main gate and threw away the keys, forcing the police to break the lock to restore access. Earlier, Cuttack Mayor Subas Singh also visited the spot and assured students that he would discuss the matter with his party's legislators. While the students have cleared the gate, they have issued a stern warning to the government. If the demand for University status is not met, they plan to intensify the agitation and gherao the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Seva Bhavan.
