Hundreds of Ugandans trek the streets of Kampala and other major towns daily in search of jobs. Many of them end up getting frustrated at the bleak prospects of getting employed. Consequently, a large number of them have opted to try their search for jobs abroad. Some of them have embarked on long journey's to countries like Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait due to the tough conditions they go through back home. Some of those economic immigrants have experienced mistreatment and sexual abuse. According to Gordon Mugyenyi a proprietor of one of the labour recruitment firms, the people who report such nasty experiences are those who travel abroad illegally. He advises the public especially the youth to consult the Internal Affairs Ministry before dealing with any recruiting company sending people abroad. 78 Ugandans between the ages of 22 and 35 were been sent to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to work. The parents of the youth say its the best option given the high unemployment in the country. The Uganda Bureau of Statistics put the figure of youth unemployment at 19.7 percent.
