About the Talk: In Session 1 of the Civil20 Life conference "Acharanam: Indic Wisdom for Sustainable Lifestyle," Dr. Mishra explores the "Shastric Foundation of Ecological Consciousness." He highlights the intricate linkages between Indian philosophy, spirituality, science, and literature, revealing the distinctive unity within the Indian knowledge tradition. Dr. Mishra places significant emphasis on the ethical dimension of the subject, underscoring the value reversal prevalent in the present era and the imperative to prioritize values over mere desires. He cautions against persistently attributing blame to the West, urging a reevaluation of Indic wisdom with an independent perspective. Dr. Mishra delves into the concept of Dharma as the unwritten constitution of the nation, stressing its pivotal role in sustainability and development. In conclusion, Dr. Mishra advocates for the practical application of Indian wisdom in our actions. Drawing from Patanjali Mahabhasya, he outlines four ways to apply knowledge: during learning, self-contemplation, sharing for others' benefit, and integration into daily life. He emphasizes the urgency of applying this wisdom to effectively address contemporary challenges in ecology and sustainability.
