The R15 V3 is a fast bike, but you already know that. How fast exactly? Well, I was able to push my stock R15 V3 up to 158 kmph. Quite impressed, yes, I was. It was still 2 kmph shy of the ever elusive 160 kmph mark, even if it is just on the speedo, not true top speed. And that had been bothering me. So, I installed a Daytona full system exhaust on it, and took it to my favourite top speed testing stretch of tarmac: the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway, just an hour's ride from Delhi. If you are reading this, I am assuming you've already watched the video and are looking for answers. Well, I should have seen the outcome from a mile away, but was too excited to think rationally. The R15 V3 with the Daytona exhaust is slower than the stock bike. Why, you ask? It is simple. The engine is running lean. The exhaust gas is escaping faster than the gas entering the engine, making this set up inefficient. The bike is struggling with the top end and it shows in the video. I tried to ride as fast as I could, hitting the limiter deliberately at times, just so that I can squeeze any bit of extra power available anywhere in the rev band. It didn't work. Yamaha says we don't need a remap with this Daytona exhaust. I simply disagree. The ECU needs to send a signal that more fuel and air should be entering the engine now to achieve proper combustion. Since Yamaha has no solution, I will find it on my own. I am probably going to import a tuning box for this bike and remap it. It would also need a new air filter. With these two mods, the bike will certainly breathe better and should touch the all elusive 160 kmph on the speedo. Give me time, I will make it happen. And thank you to Vineet Sharma, a subscriber who reached out to me on Instagram and came along for the ride. If you have any queries, I would love to hear from you and try to answer them to the best of my abilities with all honesty. Feedback is highly appreciated, both positive and negative. If you don't like something I said, please do let me know with proper reasoning - would make for a healthy conversation.
