The Ideological Distribution of Union Members: A Comparative Exploration

Using data from the World Values Survey, we find that in many countries, labor union members are quite centrist in their political ideology on a left-right scale, and that a full range of ideological views from the extreme left to the extreme right are also represented. This seemingly has important implications for labor movements and individual unions regarding building solidarity, engaging in politics, and developing representation strategies.
