Red beans are sort of heart-shaped and the color is similar to blood. There is a story in Chinese mythology of a woman that waited for her husband to return from war and wept every day as she kept her vigil. Her tears turned to blood and as they fell to the ground, they hardened into red beans. Red beans have come to represent love, fidelity, and commitment. Faye Wong is one of Asia’s biggest pop stars.
