In this video, I’m showing off a stunning Roscoe Century 5 that was a custom order for a customer, and let me tell you—Roscoe basses don’t get nearly enough credit for how incredible they are. These instruments are beautifully crafted, sound phenomenal, and honestly, I think they’re one of the most underrated brands in the custom bass world. I’ve personally owned several Roscoes over the years, and they’ve always delivered in terms of quality, playability, and tone. One of the most impressive things about Roscoe is their turnaround time. While most high-end custom builders take 18 to 24 months (or even longer), this bass was completed in less than six months—which is practically unheard of for a USA-made boutique instrument. And on top of that, Roscoe basses tend to be more affordable compared to some of the other premium brands I carry, making them an outstanding value. Now, onto the specs of this Century 5—it features a Flamed Spalted Maple top, which looks absolutely gorgeous, paired with a Wenge fingerboard that has a beautiful wood inlay. It also has a matching headstock veneer and a diamondwood nut, with a swamp ash body that has a black-enhanced grain finish. The neck is a multi-laminate construction of Flame Maple and Purpleheart, and the body even has a Wenge center laminate for added stability and resonance. For electronics, this bass is loaded with Nordstrand 5JHC pickups and an Audere Pro-Z4 preamp, which gives you an insane range of tonal flexibility. The Z-switch allows you to shift between different impedance settings, changing the character of the pickups on the fly. In the mid position, it gives you a natural passive-like response. The high Z mode (switch down) boosts brightness and attack, great for slap playing, while the low Z mode (switch up) delivers a fuller, deeper response with incredible note definition. Combined with the dual-band mid controls, treble, and bass, this bass offers a ton of versatility. I ran through some different tones in the video, adjusting the preamp and switching configurations, and no matter how I dialed it in, this bass just sounded fantastic—warm, punchy, articulate, and clear. The B-string is tight and defined, and overall, it has that signature Roscoe growl that a lot of players love. This particular bass is already sold, but if you’re interested in getting your own Roscoe built, you can hit me up at donovan@fretspot.com. I also currently have another Roscoe in stock at FretSpot.com, so check that out before it’s gone! As always, thanks for watching, and I’ll see you in the next one. Take care, friends!
