Close of book with signature sheet STORYLINE Two more independent candidates put forward their applications for the Russian presidency on Wednesday, by submitting the two (m) million signatures of support demanded by the country's Central Election Commission. Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, who decided to run for the Russian presidency only two months before the election campaign had officially started, managed to collect 2.1 (m) million signatures just hours before the deadline expired on Wednesday. Prokhorov will represent the Russian 'Right Forces' - a loose unofficial alliance which is represented partly by big business, liberal intellectuals and many of those who consider themselves as the Russian middle class. Speaking to the media, Prokhorov dismissed the validity of other opposition candidates in the campaign, such as Gennady Zyuganov, the leader of Russian Communist party, nationalist leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky, and the leader of the Fair Russia party Sergey Mironov. "These people pretend to be in opposition and in reality they are well-disguised Kremlin projects that are used to deceive our citizens and to essentially sell these votes obviously to the current authorities," said Prokhorov, who claimed that his only real opponent is Vladimir Putin. Prokhorov's application was followed by political veteran Grigory Yavlinsky, the leader of Russian liberals. A total of six candidates are expected to run against current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
