CONCEPTUAL PROJECT Landscape Redevelopment of the Residential Area at 33B Volodymyra Vernadskoho Street, Dnipro, Ukraine Project Author: Maryna Biloiartseva / BBUREAU 1. Project Location and Context The project site is located on one of the central streets of Dnipro city, in the upland district, in immediate proximity to the "Towers" residential complex, a recognized symbol of the city. The site is adjacent to a nine-story building constructed during the Soviet era. According to the design regulations of that period, this building was set back from the red line to minimize its visual impact on the surrounding environment, which is characterized by five-story buildings from the Stalinist era. The streetscape of Vernadskoho Street features a standard layout for its time, which provided only a narrow pedestrian section along the facades of the residential buildings and the roadway, where trees were planted. 2. Project Goal and Concept The goal of this conceptual project is to create a multifunctional recreational space that serves both as a stopover for transient pedestrians and a prolonged leisure area for local residents. The design divides the square into two distinct parts with clear zoning, incorporating areas for seating, sunbathing lawns, and a zone featuring play sculptures. The project includes the integration of a bicycle path along the existing pedestrian section. For the convenience of cyclists, a dedicated bicycle parking area is provided adjacent to the square. 3. Materials and Features All proposed solutions are based on the use of durable materials and modern technologies. After dark, the square is illuminated by an LED lighting system, combining both decorative and functional elements through the use of light fixtures of varying heights. Furthermore, the project proposes installing several sculptures by a Ukrainian artist to create a unique and recognizable identity for the space.
