CDCHA Original Program The Tang Dynasty was one of the golden ages in Chinese history, renowned not only for its economic prosperity and cultural flourishing but also for its open-mindedness. Against this backdrop, China's first and only female emperor—Wu Zetian—was born. Her reign, known as the "Wu Zhou Period," showcased a golden age where women could also rule the country and attract talented individuals. During Wu Zetian's era, women were given unprecedented space and opportunities. She encouraged women to enter officialdom and display their talents, the most famous example being the brilliant female prime minister Shangguan Wan'er. Princess Taiping, Wu Zetian's daughter, was also Wan'er's close friend from childhood. This program uses dance and light and shadow to depict the deep and pure friendship between Shangguan Wan'er and Princess Taiping, and through their emotions and destinies, looks back at the glorious era under Wu Zetian's rule where women shone brightly. Beneath the phoenix crown, we see not only power, but also the convergence of female wisdom, emotions, and the spirit of the times.
