Do you need more XLR/Microphone inputs? Don't go replacing your interface with an expensive digital mixer just yet, this tutorial could potentially save you a couple thousand dollars. NOTE: I forgot to post an image of a cheap Analog to SPDIF converter, so are some options: https://www.google.com/search?sourcei... GEAR USED IN THIS VIDEO: Tascam US 1641 interface Presonus Digimax D8 Hosa 3ft 1/4" TS cables My interface has 8 Mic inputs, which is great - for tracking one thing at a time. I can't track a full band that way. So, I first looked into getting a digital mixer - I tried the presonus StudioLive serious, but ranging $1,500 - $4k - it just wasn't in my budget. So, instead, I had an idea - buy a preamp and some 1/4" cables. My interface has 6 1/4" inputs and a stereo SPDIF input, I could pull it off. So, I bought all used gear - total cost? Less than $250. Weigh that against any digital mixer with 16 mic inputs, I think this method wins. Sure, I don't have the built in compressors, reverbs, yada yada, - that's all in software anyway, and should always be done in post. So, save some money, buy a preamp and some cables. SHOPPING TIP: Go to guitarcenter.com and/or ebay and look for used gear, it'll save you hundreds!!!!!
