New beginnings: this is the first music video from The Cambodian Space Project "Mothership" covering Khmer classic Nhean Barey aka "Smoking Addict". The video is filmed by Arky Arky Arky and is a rough edit, the new release and a short documentary on The Mothership coming soon. TMS is a tribute to the life and legacy of Kak Channthy and features members of the Cambodian Space Project and Channthy's brother Len Ny working to create an ongoing platform for new music and musicians from Cambodia and beyond. Some thoughts on the making of "Smoking Addict" and CSP MOTHERSHIP "Khmer classic "Smoking Addict" performed by The Mothership. This is such a special release featuring members of Cambodian Space Project from around the world in tribute to our dear Channthy. So many people she loved and created with were involved in making this. From the CSP UK touring rhythm section of Dave and Tolly recording back in London to the guys in 60 Road Siem Reap where her amazing brother Len Ny joined Julien and Bong Sak to lay down Cambodian grooves and then the amazing Srey Nang Yé Yé, our very own Bong Sak's fabulous daughter, giving her all on vocals. Arky and Julien have done an amazing job bringing this film together and I was honoured to mix the sounds. All of this culminated on such a special day where we all gathered together tofilm this video at Maya's beautiful jungle house and play together at Duplex in Phnom Penh to commemorate Thy's 100 day memory in the only way we knew how - to play rock n roll and the songs Channthy loved and watch her amazing family dance like crazy up the front of the crowd. Standing on stage with Julien, Sak, Phea and Holly and looking around at so many people who loved Thy all i could do was close my eyes and feel her spirit and my only thoughts were thank you for teaching us how to fly Channty - we love you and miss you like crazy every second. Long live The Mothership and everything it stands for xx". – Jason Shaw Credits. Khmer classic "Smoking Addict" was a song Channthy wished to record. It would have been 'next cab of the rank' had we not lost Channthy to tragedy on March 20, 2018.
