Twin sisters Maribel and Marisol share a bond that has carried them through life’s challenges, and nothing tested that bond more than being diagnosed with breast cancer just months apart. Maribel was the first to be diagnosed after her very first mammogram at 42 revealed breast cancer. Encouraged by Marisol to seek treatment in New York, she found compassionate care and a personalized plan at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists with Dr. Zuniga. Within a year, she was cancer-free. Only months later, Marisol learned she also had breast cancer. She began treatment elsewhere but soon realized it was not the right fit. She joined her sister at NYCBS, where she underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and a double mastectomy surrounded by a team that treated her like family. Separated at times by the pandemic, the sisters still found ways to support each other through faith, small acts of love, and shared milestones.
