Diamond Mill Ridge (Trail 112) is a blue-rated trail in the Tillamook State Forest. Despite its official designation, the rating feels understated given the terrain and obstacles encountered throughout. This trail serves as the primary singletrack access to Triangulation Point and can be ridden in either direction, remaining physically and technically demanding regardless of approach. When ridden from Diamond Mill Ridge Road near the Tri Loop trailhead toward Triangulation Point, the trail quickly narrows and becomes technical. A sustained rocky uphill section requires continuous commitment, precise line choice, and controlled throttle application. Farther along this direction, riders encounter a prominent root ledge commonly referred to among DFES members as “Rooty Giuliani.” When ridden away from Triangulation Point toward Tri Loop, the trail remains challenging, though the larger obstacles are somewhat less consequential in this direction. The overall character is long, physical, and committing, with difficulty that increases significantly in wet conditions. Diamond Mill Ridge pairs well with Tri Loop, Deer Fence, Truck Dent, Elk Wallow, Barney Rubble, Cramlet’s Cliffs, Bungee Jump, Alpina, and Sticks and Stones. It is worth the effort to continue up the road from the western trailhead to Triangulation Point. On a clear day, the Pacific Ocean, Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, and multiple Cascade peaks are visible from a single vantage. The Deep Forest Exploration Society is creating a comprehensive video library of trails in the Tillamook State Forest through unedited, full-length recordings. DFES supports a respectful relationship with the land and with others who choose to enjoy it.
