CIDA Light Years Ahead Project in Dadaab Refugee Camps

In Dadaab refugee camps, access to lighting was a challenge for many years until 2014 when the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and UNHCR procured 750 units of solar street lights in a bid to mitigate the situation. The Solar street lights were installed in all five camps (Hagadera, Kambioos, Dagahaley, Ifo and Ifo 2) within sites preferred by beneficiaries. Besides solar lights, 24,518 energy efficient stoves and 8,999 solar lanterns from CIDA were also distributed in all camps. Distribution was done by UNHCR’s partners Relief, Reconstruction & Development Organization (RRDO) in Ifo, Ifo 2 & Dagahaley and Fafi Integrated Development Association (FaIDA) in Hagadera and Kambioos. This Film was produced and prepared by students in the Filmmaker Training Program (FTP) run by FilmAid in Dadaab refugee camps.
