On 24 and 25 March 2022, Diogo Melo, Ernane Junior, and Mike Bueno spent all day on top of our "drivable" Harpy tower, at precisely 28.25 meters from an active Harpy Eagle nest. This nestling hatched on 1 Feb, so it was 53 days old at this point. This nest is a 5-h drive from Cuiabá, and we have a "Harpy Camp" with air-conditioned, walk-in tents (with hot showers and private bathroom) a 3-minute drive and 3-minute walk from the nest tree. As of 3 May 2022, this nestling is much bigger and is growing well. By 1 July, the nestling will be as big as its mother and father, but will have a white head. From 1 July to 15 November, we will operate the Harpy Camp and tower at this site and during that period, the then-juvenile eagle will spend a large part of every day in its nest tree.
