Imagine 2050 kicked off the Lille Dialogues, a prestigious professional event at the international festival Series Mania. Imagine 2050, which brings together creative and content professionals, sector experts, and facilitators, aims to support cultural leaders in their transition towards greater ecological and social responsibility. The opening session, entitled "Why We Must Win the Battle of the Narratives," featured two co-founders of the co-founders of the impact organization Newtopia: Magali Payen, President of Imagine 2050 and specialist in impact production and citizen mobilization, and Cyril Dion, writer, environmental activist, and director of the film Tomorrow. The session began with a clear scientific statement from Imagine 2050 speaker Emma Stokking, spokesperson for the Shift Project's Plan for the Transformation of the French Economy: we have exceeded six of the nine planetary limits, placing the habitability of Earth at risk. In light of this, Payen and Dion issued a call to creators, financiers, and broadcasters of television series to educate themselves on ecological issues, explore inspiring narratives, and offer an alternative to ecocidal discourses. They stressed that, now more than ever, we need new stories to dream of a sustainable future. To create a new world, you must first have imagined it. According to the speakers, cultural leaders have a key role to play in shaping our collective imagination. Through fiction, we can envision a desirable world that prioritizes the preservation of life and social justice. They advocated for the concept of "happy sobriety" as the only ideal capable of allowing us to live in an economic model that respects life and social justice, and to escape the denial of business as usual and the illusion of technosolutionism. They emphasized that the emergence of new narratives is a sine qua non condition for societal transformation, and that the audiovisual industry is a key lever in effecting the necessary transition.
