Final Video: A Chow Chow has entropion surgery at Toa Payoh Vets, Singapore

ENTROPION. This adopted 2-year-old Chow Chow could not open his eyes wide as in normal dogs. The owner consulted several vets but they did not perform entropion surgery. The eye specialist did but had a long waiting list. He consulted Toa Payoh Vets. The eyes are closed 95% as the eyelids are rolled into the eyes. The eye lashes rub and irritate the eye, causing inflammation, tearing and pain. This condition is called entropion. Toa Payoh Vets performed the surgery to treat this inrolling of the eyelids. An elliptical piece of skin above the inrolled eyelids is cut away. The wound is sutured with absorbable sutures which mean no need to return for stitch removal. After entropion surgery, the inrolled eyelid is no longer curling towards the eye. After entropion surgery, the eyelids are in normal position as in other normal dogs. There is no more eye pain, corneal ulcerations eyelid spasm and lots of tears. FOLLOW UP VIDEO shows the Chow Chow one year after entropion surgery. The dog is able to see without eye pain and infections. The owners are very happy. Some owners may think that entropion is normal and that the dog just has eye infections. Delays in entropion surgery causes eye corneal ulcerations and pigmentation as in this case study.
