Vitthal Abhang | Varkari Sampradaya | Sant Dnyaneshwar | Sant Namdev |

To invite this group for a live concert, please visit https://indianraga.com/live or email [email protected] Marathi Abhangs, Sant Tukaram’s ‘Sundara Te Dhyan’ and Sant Gyaneshwar ‘s ‘Roop Pahata Lochani’, were sung in traditional Varkari Sampradaya, which is the bhakti movement of Varkaris or pilgrims associated with the worship of Vittal or Vithoba, the presiding deity of Pandharpur in Maharashtra, regarded as a form of Lord Krishna. Famous musicians Bhimsen Joshi, Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal have sung these well known Marathi devotional songs as Bhaktisangeet. Blending devotion, melody with fast paced tempo, the rendition here, covering Pilu and, Bhairavi ragas, starts with a brisk Mridangam (Rohit Prasad) and Tabla (Anirudh Sharma) faceoff. This is followed by melodic calls of Jai Jai Ramkrishna Hari, after which the Abhangs are sung by Advaith Roy and Manas Vishwaroop, to accompanying Harmonium (also by Advaith) climaxing into fervent chants of ‘Vittal Vittal……..” The Abhangs evoke the overflowing joy of the saints who describe the beautiful form of Vittal standing on a brick, hands placed on his waist; a garland of "tulasi" leaves adorning his neck, a yellow silken cloth wrapped around his waist.
