Officials from the Karamoja Peace and Technology University (KAPATU) project, along with a delegation from the Ugandan government's Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), recently inspected a concrete perimeter wall constructed by the Karachunas (reformed warriors) around the Bishop's residence in Kotido Catholic Diocese, Kotido District, Karamoja sub-region, Uganda, East Africa. The 32 Karachunas involved in this project were trained in bricklaying and masonry as part of a community youth engagement initiative aimed at establishing KAPATU. “This perimeter wall demonstrates that the Karachunas can be trained, participate in productive economic activities, and disengage from cattle rustling and insecurity,” stated Rt. Rev. Bishop Dominic Eibu MCCJ, the President of KAPATU University and Bishop of the Kotido Catholic Diocese. The inspection team consisted of the following members: 1. H.E. Amb. Lt. Gen. Philip Idro - Principal Advisor to Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho Salim Saleh, Chief Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation, and Special Advisor to H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda on Defence and Military Affairs (CCOWC/SPAD). 2. Hon. David Bwangamoe Pulkol - Principal Advisor to the CCOWC/SPAD. 3. Counsel Twinobusingye Severino - Principal Legal Advisor to the CCOWC/SPAD, Chairperson of the University Council, and President of the Catholic Lawyers Society International (CLASI). 4. Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Bernardino Lowi Napeta - Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Torit in South Sudan and Member of the Board of Advisors for CLASI. 5. Mr. Charles Ichogor - Resident District Commissioner of Kotido District. 6. Fr. Raphael Loberei - Director of Estate at KAPATU. 7. Mr. Vicent Eosu - Director of Engineering at KAPATU. KAPATU is set to play a vital role in promoting peace, sustainable development, and socioeconomic transformation in Karamoja. It has plans to provide transformative higher education focused on 21st century skills for self-reliance and community development.
