The wall of tracehea consists of mucosa, hyaline cartilage and adventitia. The thrachea is kept open by C-shaped hyaline cartilage rings. The lumen of trachea is lined by pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells. The basal membrane of this epithelium is distinct. The underlying lamina propria contains fine connective tissue fibres, diffuse lymphatic tissue, elastic fibres and tubuloacinar seromucous tracheal glands. Their ducts pass through the lamina propria to the tracheal lumen. Hyaline cartilage is surrounded by perichondrium from both side. Perichondrium is composed of two layers: fibrogenic layer with fibroblasts, blood vessels, nerves and collagen type I; and chondrogenic layer with chondroblasts. In the hyaline matrix there are izogenetic groups of chondrocytes, proteoglycans, glycoproteins and collagen type II. Connective tissue adventitia contains blood vessels and nerves.
