Here is over 2 hours of large freight trains battling up the tough grades of Cajon Pass! Today I had probably one of my best days up railfanning in the World Famous Cajon Pass. Draped with fog and light rain, the grey dim lighting made for quite an interesting lighting setup to catch trains, allowing me to shoot angles in the pass not previously shootable due to sun glare normally. As per usual when I head up to the pass, I stuck to one general area for most of the day, spending most of my time railfanning at Sullivan's Curve, Mormon Rocks, and CP Cajon, and intermittent places in between. I did a lot of experimenting and exploring with different angles. I intend to use these lessons learned from today in future trips I make up there. In terms of trains, I nearly got two dozen. A majority of BNSF freight trains with a large minority of Union Pacific freight trains. Most of the action like usual happened on the triple tracked BNSF Cajon Subdivision, however the upper track, formally known as the Palmdale Cutoff of the Union Pacific Mojave Subdivision, punched above its weight today, where I caught 4 trains on it. There were plenty of foreign railroads present in addition to the two hosts, including Ferromex, Norfolk Southern, and Canadian Pacific, as well as some GECX leasers present. There was also a locomotive still in Southern Pacific paint, one of 5 AC4400CWs still wearing the old scheme nearly 30 years after the merger, as well as the Missouri Pacific Heritage Unit leading the last train of the day.
