At the heart of this exhibition is the magnolia, reborn as a symbol of the AI era, traversing the boundaries between tradition and modernity. In a space where traditional natural light intersects with artificial digital illumination, viewers rediscover the meaning of time and existence, reflecting upon the coexistence of technology and nature through the gaze of light. Artist Statement – Magnolia Trilogy Magnolia Trilogy embodies a continuous exploration of transitions from tradition to the AI era through the central motif of the magnolia. In Part One, "Whisper of Magnolia," the traditional significance and beauty of the magnolia during the Joseon Dynasty are depicted as gentle traces of past light, naturally expressing memory and temporal beauty. Part Two, "Deconstructing Magnolia," visualizes how contemporary society dissects and analyzes nature through fragmented beams of light, depicting the digital disintegration of the magnolia’s original form. This part reveals the hidden aspects of the consumption of beauty and technological convenience, prompting viewers to reconsider the relationship between humanity and nature. Finally, Part Three, "AI Magnolia: Digital Bloom," portrays the magnolia reconstructed through AI and big data, presented in futuristic light, capturing the transformation of the magnolia's symbolic meaning into digital data. Viewers are confronted with questions regarding the new symbolism and sustainability of the magnolia in a technological age. Ultimately, the Magnolia Trilogy illustrates the journey of nature’s beauty, originating from tradition and evolving along a flow of digital illumination into new contemporary meanings. 1. 전시 이야기 『빛결』은 존재와 시간의 흔적을 빛의 흐름으로 풀어낸 전시이다. 빛은 눈에 보이지 않는 시간의 흐름과 존재의 기억을 연결하며 과거와 현재, 그리고 미래를 이어주는 매개체가 된다. 본 전시의 중심 소재인 목련은 전통과 현대 사이의 경계를 넘나들며 AI시대의 상징으로 재탄생한다. 관객은 전통적인 자연의 빛과 인공적 디지털 빛이 교차하는 공간에서 시간과 존재의 의미를 재발견하고, 기술과 자연의 공존을 빛의 시선으로 성찰하게 된다. 2. 작가노트 – ‘Magnolia Trilogy‘ (목련 3부작) 목련 3부작은 목련을 중심으로 전통에서 AI 시대로의 변화를 탐구하는 연속적 흐름을 형상화한 작품이다. 1부 「목련의 속삭임」에서는 조선시대 목련이 지닌 전통적 의미와 아름다움을 과거의 빛으로 그려내며, 시간의 흔적과 기억을 자연스러운 아름다움으로 표현한다. 2부 「목련 해체」는 현대 사회가 자연을 분석하고 해부하는 과정을 빛의 파편화된 선으로 나타내며, 목련의 원형이 디지털로 분해되는 과정을 시각화한다. 이는 아름다움의 소비와 기술적 편리함의 이면을 드러내고, 자연과 인간의 관계를 재고찰하게 만든다. 마지막 3부 「AI 목련: 디지털의 개화」는 AI와 빅데이터로 재구성된 목련을 미래적 빛으로 표현하며, 목련의 의미가 디지털 데이터로 재탄생되는 과정을 담았다. 관객은 이 과정을 통해 기술시대 목련이 지닌 새로운 상징성과 지속 가능성에 대한 질문을 마주하게 된다. 결국 목련 3부작은 전통에서 시작된 자연의 아름다움이 디지털 빛의 흐름을 따라 새로운 시대적 의미로 진화하는 여정을 그려낸다
