Released by Billy Idol in 1983 as the title track from the album of the same name, 'Rebel Yell' charted pretty well back in the day, and was named the 79th best hard rock song of all time by VH1 based on a public voting in 2009. A rather simple song on bass, but its simplicity is deceptive - the constant straight notes by Phil Feit, who recorded the session bass for this track, are so consistent in tempo that his steady, mechanical feel is hard to emulate. Straightforward as it is, the bassline serves to drive the song while allowing Steve Stevens to do what he does on guitar above it. I'm rather short on time this weekend, so a few quick takes were laid, and the best (and final) one was taken for this cover.
