Neal Casal November 2, 1968 – August 26, 2019 Turns out this was the final performance of Neal Casal's band Circles Around The Sun*. Late night set on Thursday 4/22 (technically early Friday AM). I got there late, but they were jamming and even the Sheriff I saw was moving to groove. Joe Russo had played earlier on the Main Stage, and came to the side of the stage and handed Neal a snack, some fried cheese balls. He then came up on stage and took over the drums. Part way into the jam, Mark Levy , the CATS drummer, came back and they drummed together, switching who was in the main seat. Afterwards, I spoke to Neal. He said he had offered Joe to sit in earlier, but Joe didn't think he would be up to it after the JRAD set. So he surprised Neal, and the rest of the band with his appearance. Learning of Neal's death late last night, and confirming it this morning, has been devastating for all who loved him and his music. Please enjoy this, and share it. Keep your light shining.
