This Pillar 2 presentation, delivered by Fernando Pinacho Crisostomo (ECOBERTURA), outlines the technical roadmap for Work Package 4 (WP4) within the EUFAWREADY project. The primary focus is on advancing the "Detect" pillar through a multi-disciplinary approach involving European and Swiss partners. Key objectives are: smart monitoring (comparing automatic and conventional traps using specific pheromone lure formulations), cutting-edge tech (developing an AI-based recognition algorithm for Fall Armyworm and testing odour sensors that "smell" plant-emitted volatiles from infested maize), strategic mapping (designing spatio-temporal strategies for early detection and outbreak tracking) and molecular insights (adapting diagnostics to detect molecular markers for insecticide resistance). This presentation was delivered during the first EUFAWREADY webinar, titled "Maize matters: Europe gets FAW-ready!". This event, organized by HCC on January 29, 2026, is the first in a planned series of four. It is a vital part of the project's strategy to proactively engage key stakeholders and build a strong community prepared to defend against the threat posed by the Fall Armyworm.
