This is Map 09 Computer Storage from Scythe played on the Ultra-Violence difficulty and completed with 100% kills, items, and secrets. Played on the Woof! source port. Map: Computer Storage Difficulty: Ultra-Violence Soundtrack: Demons On The Prey Computer Storage has that nice Knee Deep In The Dead scenery and doesn't really build on anything more than that. It's possible to completely skip activating the Revenant teleports by strafe-running across some boxes near the yellow key to pick up the red key out the window. Also, we get two secrets right off the bat! Secrets: 0:00 - Start 0:01 - Secret 1 and 2 0:05 - Secret 3 Scythe is a 32-level megawad created by Doom mapper, Erik Alm. The wad was released on April 8th, 2003, and is regarded as one of the most influential Doom wads. Erik Alm gives only the necessary details to set up the story of Scythe: " You are a space marine yadayada... A time anomaly has been detected and there seems to be demons traveling to earth from the future!1 Your job is to travel to various places to find out where this time anomaly is and then stop the demonic Invasion. The list of places includes military and scientific bases, factories, cities and other misc locations. Who knows where you'll end up..." The progression of Scythe is regarded as it's most distinguishing characteristic. The first 2/3rds of the megawad are short, punchy, and small maps that can be completed within a few minutes; most of these early maps have a difficulty that is less than that of most Doom maps officially released by id Software. The final third portion of Scythe ramps up the difficulty and places the player in combat encounters where ammo has to be conserved, limited space will force the player to be quick on their feet, and challenge the player to face slaughter-type amounts of demons. Scythe is one of the hallmark classic Doom experiences, and it is fascinating in its simplistic design. The wad never felt like it was drying up and delivering the same formula to you from start to finish; there is enough variety in the combat, map design, environment, and texture usage that it constantly feels like a breath of fresh air when you start up the wad. Many players might feel that the final episode of the wad drove the difficulty up too high, but some players could also argue that it provided the much needed challenge to wrap up the Scythe experience.
