(2-Channel Installation; 72 mins; Score by Christian Renou/Brume - 2008). Originally presented at the New American Art Union (defunct), Portland, OR as part of a Couture Grant Program. ACTUAL INSTALLATION: The piece that was presented consisted of two-channels which presented the film as two screens on the ceiling, side-by-side, and depending on your orientation one will be upside down and the other will be rightside-up. One film is presented from beginning to end, and the other backwards. For visitors to the space we provided angled custom-made, cushion covered lounges with pillows. The sounds are cool, watery, spacial. The installation will synergize both the audio/sound composition with the video. The video light streams from two projectors on each side of the gallery - mounted on the floor and fills the space with light and shadow. The soundtrack will cause a further sense of dislocating a party atmosphere for one that is truly ambient, distilled, filled with quiet and empassioned drones. The use of objects in space will trip the eye of the viewer with a perceived sense of elongation, elation, free space - also reflecting themselves. The work will be installed so the viewer can enter and walk around the space, immersing themselves inside the piece. OPTIONAL INSTALLATION: In the future this piece could also be shown in this way: The piece also intends to extend the entire space, sculpting it in the broken light created by shooting video into a series of motorized mirrorballs. This is a play on disrupting modern day surveillance which is played on within the film itself. The light in the space is created exclusively by video projection, which also uses the moving images of an operating mirror ball. For this I would like to further play with light by having the rotation of each hanging ball rotate clockwise and counterclockwise. The clash of reflections will cause for an exciting mix of defracted light which will disorient the viewer’s sense of gravity and space. This fracture of light will create an eye-popping glitter, challenging the viewer with an unease and delight. From the center of the room will dangle up to ten variably sized mirror balls which will be hung at various heights above and below eye level. These will all be motorized.
