Before Christ, the Slavs were called Vened or Ant. According to the studies of archaeologists and linguists, the first Slavic homeland included the Pripyat Basin and the Middle Dnieper region, starting from the Vistula River. Around 568, they established a large Avar Empire, centered in Pannonia. Thus, many of the regions where the Slavs lived came under Avar rule. The fact that the Avars were a warrior and dominant community led to the partial assimilation of the Slavs in ethnic terms. The tribes that tried to oppose the Avar rule were eliminated. In particular, it was thanks to the Turks that the Eastern Slavs entered the historical arena, settled in the Balkans and Bohemia, and established political organizations for the first time. This influence continued from the 6th century to the 8th century AD. In the 8th century, things began to change. The ancestors of today's Swedes, the Normans, began to control the Eastern Slavs around Ladoga and Lake Ilmen. They named this region Gardar, meaning 'place of cities'. They expanded their trade networks with the furs they received as taxes from the Finnish and Slavic peoples they subjected to them. They spread in the direction of the Volga and Dnepr, reaching the Bulgar and Caspian provinces, and descending to the Black Sea, they also came into contact with the Slavs there. Thanks to their commercial activities, they established close relations with Byzantium. Some of them later served Byzantium as mercenaries. These soldiers were called Varangians. Varangians were Scandinavian soldiers known for their seafaring and warrior qualities. and they actually formed the origin of today's Russia. #Russia #Ukraine #History Like the video!
