Place of origin: Hungary, Eger city and surroundings. One of the gems of Hungarian pigeon breeding and flying is the Eger Blue Circulation. This beautiful and graceful-looking breed made itself popular with its attractive, fast-paced, fast-paced manner. From the turn of the century until World War II, it had a large breeding camp in and around the eponymous city. But he also had plenty of breeders in other parts of the country. The time of the development of the breed can be traced back to 1870-1900 on the basis of written documents, although there are certain assumptions that date back to the time of the Turkish occupation. According to oral tradition, the Turks brought such pigeons with them from little Asia. The Turks who remained here continued to breed it, but we have no evidence of this, but it is believable that its spread began from such ancient times. This is indicated by the fact that certain small blue flying pigeons bred as “Eger pigeons” are mentioned in the relevant written documents. The authentic and partially proven process for the development of the breed is as follows: A soap master named Stupka, known as the Eger flying pigeon, bred and then crossed with Viennese frogs. From this cross, he obtained dark-backed, gray-bellied pigeons with a longer beak — a so-called “lizard head” and a pearl. For further refining, he brought offspring from the crossing of the blue dove of Berlin and the blue dove of Buda. He later also used the Viennese bibic to capture the color blue. Over time, a red flying pigeon with some similar characteristics has also entered the Eger orbit, the origin of which is not mentioned in any description, but it is mentioned in the available written records. The blue pigeons of Eger have to do with the red pigeon, because during the breeding nowadays a single red pigeon with exactly the same head shape and body shape fell out in Eger, Pécs and elsewhere. Many specimens bear the red marks that appear on smaller down feathers, on the inside of first-order oar feathers, and sometimes on the reddish discoloration of the straps of smoky hens. By crossing several times, a beautiful-looking, short-bodied, lighter-bellied dark-backed, pearly, gray-eyed blue flying pigeon with a characteristic head, which was later referred to as “Eger Blue”, was created. These well-formed flying pigeons were still feared at the turn of the century, they were rarely sold, and this breeding fear did not benefit the breed, hindering its spread. And he who did not have access to good material bred pigeons like them with minor differences in appearance and less good qualities. The recording of the variety in its present form is named after János Ébneth. He crossed specimens of Stupka's pigeons with blues bred by Sándor Binét, which were pigeons with slightly curved heads but even clearer semiris. The monopoly of the aging Stupka and Binét breeders was broken and the blue ones bred by János Ébneth became the most popular in Eger. The standard description of the variety has also been completed and with this the Eger blue orbit has been officially recognized as an independent variety. This cultivated version flew excellently and had very good orientation. The textbook prepared by János Winkler, published in 1925, describes in detail the varietal character of the Eger blue, it highlights the good orientation ability, its lively behavior, the lively turns in its wall flight, and the attractive flight style. The breed has become popular for its listed traits, and many breeders have succumbed to flying. The breeders were proud if their flying team was more “sick” than their rival fellow breeders, or if the falcon couldn’t catch them from their flock. We must pay tribute to the breeders who subconsciously or consciously created and controlled the breeding of this beautiful and noble breed. The task of today's breeders is to further develop this heritage left to us in an organized and purposeful manner within the framework of the Breed Club, so that the flying and breeding of the Eger blue orbit is at least as popular in the present as it was in the past.
