The National Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraina is a scientific and educational institution, one of the leading centers for the development of natural sciences in Ukraina, operating in the system of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraina, and at the same time one of the largest scientific and natural museums in the world. Located in the center of Kyiv, in an old building of the former Olgynska Gymnasium. The total amount of funds of the exposition part is about 30 thousand samples. The volume of stock collections reaches 2.5 million collectible units. The main activities of the museum are: - development of scientific foundations of natural museology, creation, enrichment and preservation of stock collections and expositions; - study of the current state and distribution of representatives of flora and fauna, floristic and faunal complexes of Ukraina and other regions; - research on ecology and evolution of organisms and biostratigraphy, history of flora and fauna; - analysis of the current state and preservation of natural geological monuments of Ukraina, in particular mineralogical studies of expensive and semi-precious samples; - conducting scientific-educational, popularization and cultural-educational work on natural sciences. The National Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraina includes five scientific departments: department of museology (2nd and 5th floors of NSM); department of Geology (2nd floor of NSM); department of Paleontology (3rd floor of NSM); department of Zoology (4th floor of NSM); department of Botany (5th floor of NSM).
