The New Iran War: What’s the impact on Ukraine? | Taras Kuzio

In this episode of World Talks, we are joined by Taras Kuzio, Professor of Political Science at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, to discuss how the war in Iran could affect Ukraine. The conversation examines whether the conflict benefits Vladimir Putin by diverting Western attention or instead exposes Russia’s declining influence and inability to protect its allies. Kuzio argues that while Ukraine now produces much of its own military equipment, prolonged fighting in the Middle East could strain Western weapons supplies, particularly air defense systems. He highlights what he calls Western “double standards” in actively defending Israel’s skies while refusing to create a similar air defense shield over Ukraine. In conclusion, he states that “it would be far safer for the West to support Ukraine by shooting down missiles and drones flying over Ukraine."
