A case of retaliation? After raising concerns to deaf ears in local Party leadership, eight members of the Salt Lake County GOP reported what they believed was election interference to the city attorneys and others. The County bylaws are clear that "claimants should be encouraged to report illegal activities to appropriate authorities." Art. V, Sect. 3.F.5. Mike Carey himself encouraged them to report their concerns to the Murray Police. However, after these whistleblowers reported these concerns, the Party has now decided to remove these whistleblowers from all of their leadership positions within the Party. Background: In September 2025, Salt Lake County GOP Chair, Mike Carey, wanted the Party's Executive Committee to endorse certain candidates in a non-partisan municipal race. These individuals were concerned that this would constitute election interference to endorse or nominate a candidate outside of a convention when the bylaws do not expressly allow for this type of endorsement. A trial was held for these 8 individuals late into the night on February 9, 2026 at a local beauty college. The trial was out of order, failed to comply with Roberts Rules requirements, lacked a required investigation, no due process, no evidence of harm, and was held despite improper jurisdiction. Despite objections, Chair Mike Carey went forward with the trial. All 8 were found guilty. And seven of the eight were removed from their leadership positions. We need to be applauding those who call out election interference wherever it is occurring. These people are heroes who should be applauded, not reprimanded. Whistleblowers should be encouraged to come forward.
