On our scouting tour through Morocco for our guided off-road trips, we are rediscovering the country, even though we have been traveling there for 16 years. One reason for this is the heavy rainfall in late 2024. Many tracks were severely damaged; in some cases, entire sections were washed away. On the other hand, many former tracks have now been paved, which doesn't diminish the scenic beauty, but certainly the off-road experience they once offered. Finally, some tracks are no longer maintained and serviced because they have been replaced by parallel asphalt roads. All of this forces us to explore new routes that we want to take with the participants of our guided off-road trips. And for all travelers to Morocco, it means that there can be surprises on familiar tracks. In the video, we show the track in the High Atlas from Tana over the Tizi-Tagountsa through the tunnel to Amellago. This trail has been badly damaged by the rains. It's been completely washed away in three places, but can be bypassed heading downhill. And in one place, we had to widen the trail from 2.3 m to 2.5 m over a length of about 10 meters. It's a good thing I brought my vole with me, who already misses his gardening. According to the radio tower keeper at the top of the pass, the trail will be repaired starting in early April 2025. Perhaps someone can write in the comments whether this actually happened.
