I'm not going to make it to Portugal

I can’t do it. This week I come to the realisation that this trip is just too much. You join me in Valencia, where I meet some fellow English van friends who take me under their wing - feeding me Christmas dinner, looking out for me, and even handing me a walkie-talkie before we head south in convoy. Our second stop is Denia, parked right on the beach, where I may have had a brief holiday romance, explored the town, and attempted laundry for the second time… meltdown-free. A Christmas miracle. I then move on to a nature reserve in Torrevieja for New Year’s Eve, where I’m treated to a spectacular fireworks display at midnight. Over the following week, a walk around the lake brings some big realisations about my travels — mainly that I’m not going to make it to Portugal. I spend time getting to know the town, enjoy a meal out after a failed shopping trip, and explore the local beach. I end up staying put for weeks, but eventually need to top up my water.
