Cube3D allows users to generate 3D models from simple text prompts, and it’s now available to run locally. We start by exploring the Cube3D repository and its accompanying research paper, then cover the hardware requirements and walk through the local installation process. Once it's up and running, we test a variety of text prompts to see how well Cube3D generates 3D models across different categories, from everyday objects to cars and more stylized inputs. Beyond text-to-3D generation, we also dive into a reconstruction feature that allows Cube3D to deconstruct existing meshes into tensor indices and reconstruct them again—a surprisingly powerful capability for experimentation and analysis. To wrap up, we 3D print one of the generated models to evaluate its physical output, and share some final thoughts on Cube3D’s potential as a local generative 3D tool.
