The 2017 Hunter Valley Steamfest Great Steam Train Race - That year 2 trains participated with steam locomotives 3642 & 3016. The race was between Mayfield near Newcastle & Maitland, where the route has 4 tracks. East to West is the Up & Down Main and the Up & Down Coal Road. As the name implies, the "Coal Road" is mostly used by coal trains to & from the port of Newcastle, the largest by tonnage coal port in the world. 3016 was on the "Coal Road" with 3642 on the Main line. Video taken from 3642's train. The actual race was approximately 25 minutes. Video of when coal trains passed between the two racing trains has been deleted.
