In the rolling, sunlit hills of Rheinhessen, @weingutbiankaunddanielschmitt have built something that feels part farm, part sanctuary, part love story. Their vineyards are a biodynamic ecosystem in motion; wild herbs, insects, vines & soils held in gentle equilibrium. As members of Renaissance des Appellations, they farm with a devotion that feels less like methodology & more like a quiet vow to the land. The vineyards form a patchwork of sandstone, clay & limestone, each parcel approached with patience & intuition. In the cellar, nothing is rushed: long élevage in large wooden foudre, ferments guided rather than controlled. Their wines - Silvaner, Riesling, Furmint, Spatburgunder - carry openness, lift & a calm emotional depth. Daniel is German-born; Bianka arrived via Hungary, fell in love - first with him, then the region, and stayed. Together they’ve shaped one of Germany’s most soulful biodynamic estates, where each decision feels both practical & poetic. We closed the day as it deserved to end: kebabs, a few bottles opened simply for pleasure, and a game of soccer in the barrel room with their son Alexander, laughter ricocheting off the old wood. These visits often drift into the philosophical & with the Schmitts it happens effortlessly. At one point, Bianka brought up her favourite book, ‘The Giving Tree’ - the tale of a tree that gives everything it has as a gesture of unconditional love, offered freely until only a stump remains. The moral? True happiness is found in giving without expectation. It felt impossibly fitting. That same spirit - generosity without spectacle - runs through the Schmitt family & through their wines. A landscape shaped by two people in perfect orbit - grounded in the earth & lifted by their love. #Rheinhessen #BiankaUndDanielSchmitt #SchmittWein #BiodynamicWine #Demeter #RenaissanceDesAppellations #NaturalWine #Silvaner #Riesling #GermanWine #WineBuyingTrip2025 #GraftedWines #Sandstone #Limestone #LoveStoryInWine #sade #sadeallday
