UNCLE was intended as a more light-hearted version of the Bond films, but the films were already tongue in cheek, so UNCLE became increasingly comedic as the four seasons went on. The premiere season was the best, starting with the opening explainer, then going on to (mostly) serious stories, and a terrific Jerry Goldsmith theme: lots of brass and percussion, with a quirky 5/4 time signature. For future seasons the theme would be played in conventional 4/4 time and jazzed up considerably. Sounds like Lalo Schifrin may have arranged the season two version; three and four got increasingly further from Goldsmith's original. All are included here. It's hard not to like Stephanie Powers but 'Girl From' was sometimes closer to the campy Batman series than any kind of spy adventure.
