For any copyright, please send me a message.  The BBC has been flooded with almost 300 complaints after a hairstylist told viewers to dye their hair at home.  Viewers of The One Show complained following an interview with stylist Michael Douglas about how people can look after their hair while practicing social distancing by not visiting their hairdresser.  According to the BBC website, viewers ‘felt hairdresser Michael made an inaccurate statement about hair dyes and/or feels this could be damaging to for the hairdressing industry’.  Since the episode aired, the BBC confirmed they received 287 complaints in total.  Speaking to host Alex Jones, he offered advice on dying your hair at home.  Michael explained that buying hair dye in the shop ‘is exactly the same stuff that gets used in salons’.  He also suggested trying semi-permanent dye if you were unsure about trying it yourself and permanent if you want to cover up greys. The stylist also touched on shaving your hair and cutting hair.  The BBC has responded to complaints it received about the segment and explained they aired it after viewers got in touch about going to the hairdresser.  A statement on the site read: ‘We received complaints regarding our item on dying hair at home.  ‘The One Show had been contacted by a number of viewers asking if they could go to the hairdressers given the current advice about social distancing. We therefore decided to include this item which looked at whether we should be cutting hair ourselves.  ‘We gave viewers some simple advice to help them feel confident about managing their hair until they are able to get their hairdresser to do the job properly.  ‘Our hairdresser did suggest people should seek advice from their hairdressers and we believe viewers would be aware of the need to carefully check the instructions for any product they buy.’  Michael took his Instagram page after the episode to clear things up after saying that hair dye kits are the same as the ones used by professionals.  Michael posted: ‘It wasn’t an incorrect statement, but I probably should have clarified that what the hairdresser offers is the skill and expertise, application, colour choice, the ability to blend colours together.  ‘I was making a point that it is safe to colour your own hair…perhaps in retrospect I would have phrased things differently.’  The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
