In the academic high seas marked by the adage “publish or perish,” having clear and widely accepted guidance on publication quality is critical. Unlike journals, monographs lack established ranking metrics and yet play a central role in faculty careers especially for those in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Faculty often feel lost when they navigate in the sea of monograph publishers. This session presents a case study where sociology tenure-track faculty turned to librarians for advice in selecting appropriate publishers for their monographs. The study revealed critical gaps in existing resources and underscored the need for a comprehensive evaluation framework that incorporates scholarly reputation, distribution effectiveness, and impact measurement. We propose the development of collaborative tools that can enhance resources for collection development and faculty consultation for librarians and empower publishers with clearer pathways to communicate value propositions and establish credibility. Attendees are invited to engage in a dynamic discussion on how libraries can take a leadership role in guiding and forging partnerships to develop transparent, evidence-based assessment tools for monographs. By fostering dialogue among the stakeholders, we aim to identify practical strategies for evaluating the quality and impact of monograph publishers and to improve scholarly communication as we sail into the wind of today’s complex academic publishing.
