Rumi – The Parrot and the Shopkeeper

This story is adapted from Rumi’s Masnavi (Book One) and is part of the series Rumi’s Tales and Wisdom ‪@DrAmani_Rumis_Room‬ A shopkeeper owns a bright green parrot that entertains customers with its eloquence and sweet voice. One day, the parrot accidentally spills bottles of rose oil. Enraged, the shopkeeper strikes the bird, leaving it bald and silent. Later, when the parrot sees a bald man passing by, it makes a humorous but mistaken comparison. Through this story, Rumi criticizes false and superficial comparisons, reminding us that things which appear similar may have entirely different inner realities.
