Fast and Furious - Jakob Toretto / Dark Family Theme Suite - Brian Tyler

Years ago I made a music suite for Furious 7 as a farewell to Paul Walker. Over time it's received much more attention than expected, and so many people have expressed how much the suite meant to them. I promised to revisit the series’ music at some point, so here I am! This suite compiles two new leitmotifs introduced by Brian Tyler in Fast 9. One is heard sparingly, such as at 5:27 and 10:15; it's a sinister theme for Dom’s estranged brother. The other plays at 2:42, 13:43 and all throughout the suite; it represents the tragic family past. I thought the latter was a catchy villainous theme that deserved some spotlight, it carries some strength throughout the score. The original family theme, which is briefly heard at 14:56, is perhaps my favorite theme in the series ... but unfortunately it's largely absent from Fast 9! I believe Brian Tyler wrote this darker theme as a substitute, to highlight the fractured family. Brian Tyler has done a great job scoring all but one F&F film since Tokyo Drift, and as ridiculous as the series has become (thought Fast 9 was very bad) he's always delivered heartfelt and energetic scores. While the Furious 7 suite focused on a farewell, this one focuses on redemption, which you'll notice as the tones of the "dark family theme" become more lighthearted.
